Sharing is caring!

Last week, I was invited to an exclusive Father’s Day event with Home Depot. How could a guy say no to that?

The event was being held at the beautiful Airship37, located in Toronto’s historic Distillery District.

Home Depot had lots of staff on hand to answer any questions we had about any of the products on display.

Mood Lights and Keyless Entry!

Once everyone had arrived, the demonstrations began. Department specialists from stores all across the GTA were brought in to do demos and answer questions. They were very thorough, and answered everything I wanted. It was nice to see Craig from the Oakville store talking about the really cool Hue personal wireless lighting.

home depot hue lights

These lights are sure to turn any boring rec room into a rockin’ party pad! The really cool part? They work with the beat of music! They are also expandable, can be personalized, and you can share your settings with others on their social app. Now that is pretty awesome!

He also gave me a run-down on the Kevo keyless entry system by Kwikset. This is a high-tech system which allows you to open your door with just a touch, as long as you have the bluetooth remote on your person.

home depot kevo

As well, you can open the Kevo with your smartphone from anywhere in the world, using the Kevo mobile app. Need to grant access to someone without a key? You can send them an eKey, so they can get in if you need them to.

Tool bags, Tech Bags, and Organization… so you don’t get screwed!

Have you ever needed a nail, a screw, a nut, or a bolt… you know you have the one you need, but you can never find it? Ya, me too. These cases would come in handy to keep these items organized.

As well, these tool boxes and tech bags are a great and lightweight way to keep all your tools organized on the worksite, or at home.

Sockets, Wrenches and Measuring Tapes

No tool collection is complete without a good socket set. Home Depot carries a great selection of these, as well as wrench sets and measuring tapes. I always keep a few measuring tapes handy… as they always seem to be left where you last used them.

Power Tools!

Every guy needs to own power tool. What better gift to give Dad than a something from the power tool section at Home Depot?

Every time I walk into that section, I pause, and listen to the angels sing. I often get approached by an associate to ask if I need help. My answer… “no, I’m just soaking it all in.”

Maybe it was all the projects I worked on with my Dad as a kid. I remember finishing our basement into a party / rec room. I got to build the bar area. I remember using a hammer gun, pneumatic nailer, cordless drill, and all kinds of manual tools. I was really proud of what I had built with my two hands, some cool tools, and a lot of sweat.

Mowin’, Blowin’, Smokin’ and Grillin’

Next we got to learn all about Home Depot’s lineup of outdoor power equipment, including mowers, blowers, and edgers. One of the newest lawn mowers on the market made by Toro, can be folded and stored upright. Yes… upright. It will not leak gas or oil. Brilliant for smaller storage sheds or garages. This mower is exclusive to the Home Depot.

home depot mowers and bbqs

Now on to one of my favourite topics… BBQing , smoiking and grilling! As you have probably seen when you are in a Hoem Depot, they have a wide array of cooking appliances for your deck. Anythign from charcoal grills to electric or gas smokers, to compact BBQs, all the way up to 5 burner grills. When I arrived, one grill caught my eye… a very large stainless steel Brinkmann gas grill.

home depot bbqs

This bad boy has 5 burners, a side sear burner, convenient drawers for you BBQ tools, a cupboard for a garbage bin, and… wait for it… a smoker built in to the bottom of the unit! Yup… you can have your brisket cookin’ low and slow in the smoker, and when it is close to done, throw some chicken, corn and garlic right on the grill, to have a complete southern meal. The drool factor was high on this one.

Never let a little rain ruin your day!

While we were outside learning about lawn mowers, blowers, smokers and BBQs, it started to drizzle a little. Before it started to rain too hard, the Home Depot staff quickly brought us all umbrellas.

And there were prizes!

Fellow attendee Zach Bussey was super lucky, and won the sweet Hue light set. I won the Husky 18” Total Tech Bag I was eyeing earlier.

home depot winner zach bussey

As well, the fine folks at Home Depot sent us all home with a Ryobi 18V Lithium-Ion Cordless 2” Brad Nailer.

Now it’s your turn to win!

Home Depot was gracious enough to offer up a Ryobi 18V lithium-ion drill and impact driver combo set for me to giveaway to one of my lucky readers!

Home Depot Ryobi drills

As stated on the Home Depot website: This kit is powered by new lithium-ion batteries. They hold a charge 4x longer, offer 20% more runtime and are 45% lighter weight than Ni-Cd batteries. Batteries stored on the IntelliPort charger are conditioned for peak performance. The drill includes a ½ inch heavy-duty single sleeve, keyless chuck with 24 position clutch to match your drilling and driving needs. A variable speed trigger and 1,500 in.-lbs. of torque provide control and power when driving long and large screwed or bolts. They both feature the exclusive MagTray and on-board bit storage, which allow convenient placement of bits and screws.

• DRILL:0-440 / 0-1600 RPM (no load speed); 24 position clutch and 2-speed gearbox
• MagTray® magnetic holder for convenient placement of screws and bits
• IMPACT DRIVER: 1,500 in-lbs of torque; 0-2600 RPM (no load speed)

All you have to do is enter below!

Cheers,
Big Daddy

Disclaimer: I was not compensated for this post, and all opinions are my own. I am a guy who loves his power tools, grills, smokers, lawn equipment and snow blowers. For me, walking into Home Depot is like a kid walking into a toy store.

For his first father’s day, I gave my hubby a custom airbrushed t-shirt that says Big Daddy on it (long before I met this other Big Daddy LOL!) and every time he picks it up to wear it, I can see him reminiscing about when he got the nickname and the day he came home from work and found our tiny son wearing this giant Big Daddy shirt. :)

Best gift I ever gave? My hubby Chris found out he was going to be a Dad for the 2nd time on Father’s Day. Couldn’t have been better if we’d planned it (there was NO planning whatsoever for it!). Not sure I could top it… but, since he’s doing renos and his drill just died, this would be perfect!

  8. I bought him a book on geek parenting – which is probably why our daughter knows how to say Boba Fett.
