Yesterday was “Back To The Future Day”. You know… the day in “Back to the Future Part II”, when Marty McFly traveled to October 21, 2015, to save his children, yet to be born in “Back to the Future’s” 1985.

Everyone was all over the comparisons, the ads, and the hoopla around it. Even me.

I posted this on Instagram last night:

Today is "Back To The Future" day. In "Back to the Future Part II," Marty McFly travels to October 21, 2015, to save his children, yet to be born in "Back to the Future's" 1985. @mapsgirl and I stayed up to see Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd drive on stage in a DeLorean DMC-12 on the @jimmykimmel show. It was awesome hearing Huey Lewis sing "Back In Time" from the movie. I know it is just a movie, but because the "Back To The Future" movies were some of my favourite movies, it feels pretty awesome to be around on the day he travelled to, and comparing what they predicted in the movie, and what is actually around now. #365Grateful #BTTF #BackToTheFuture #MartyMcFly #DocBrown #DrEmmettBrown #MichaelJFox #ChristopherLloyd #TimeTravel #TimeMachine #RobertZemeckis #DeLorean #DMC12 #GreatScott #1985 #2015 #ThatsHeavy #FluxCapacitor #Future #HueyLewis #DoubleTap #photooftheday #happy #picoftheday #instadaily #amazing #instalike #bestoftheday #igers #igdaily

I was so caught up in it, I forgot that October 21st was also another landmark day for me.

October 21, 2010.

The day I lost my job.

Now, I promised myself before I wrote this that I wasn’t going to go on about bad stuff, or how disappointed I was when I lost my job. And this is likely the last time I will acknowledge this – as I truly believe it is best to look forward than look back.

It was actually a feeling of relief when I walked out of that building for the last time. It was a poisoned environment, and I felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders.

But it meant picking myself back up after being knocked down.

My best friend is the one who brings out the best in me.

Another one of my favourite Henry Ford quotes.

It took a while to get my head in the right place. A much needed pep talk from Wendy, that put my life in perspective. With her talk, and the advice of a few others, I came to this conclusion: “After a few months, I had come to the conclusion that I either needed to work full-time looking for a job, or work full-time trying to build my business.” It only took a few great events for me to realize I NEEDED to build my brand.

I’m glad I did. I met some fantastic people along the way, I worked with some great brands, and I built my online personality – an extension of the real me.

I now remind myself to look at challenges in life a different way.

“When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.” ~ Henry Ford

Challenges will always be there in life. They are inevitable. How you handle those challenges dictates the outcome. I could have stayed down, but I bounced back fighting.

I made my brand. I worked hard to get my name out there. I proved to the people who said “you can’t” that “I can”.

“There is no disgrace in honest failure; there is disgrace in fearing to fail.” ~ Henry Ford

Everyone has a story jdrf

5 Years Later

I am happy. I work for an awesome company, who gives their employees the tools to succeed. I am contracted to an awesome client, whom I truly love. My family is amazing, and supper supportive of everything I do. And the people I consider friends – they want to see me happy. Having friends that actually build you up instead of tear you down – that makes me happy.

I leave you with this…

“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!” ~ Sylvester Stallone, Rocky Balboa

Don’t ever, let anyone, tell you “You Can’t”, because if you put your mind to it, “You Can”.

If you get knocked down, get up, dust off, and move forward.

Cheers,
Big Daddy
