If you want to create a home gym, you will be glad to know this is a great investment. Not only can you save a small fortune in gym fees, but you may also find that you can add value to your home as well. If you are ready to make a positive change, you only have to take a look below.
Make Sure you Have the Right Space
Before you even think about getting a bunch of fitness equipment for your home gym, you need to make sure that you have a good space to work with. You can place your gym just about anywhere you want, but the best places tend to be in a spare room, basement or garage. When you know where your gym is going to go, you then need to clear out the area so you have a blank slate to work with.
Invest in Some Rubber Flooring
If you intend on having any kind of free weights in your gym then you must avoid causing any damage. If you have a finished basement then this is especially the case. If you do want to avoid damage then you need to get some rubber flooring. The great thing about doing this is that it will protect the ground and it will also reduce the amount of noise, quite significantly. You can put rubber flooring under exercise equipment such as treadmills, bikes and steppers too, so make sure that you are mindful of this if you can. If you do want to buy some rubber garage flooring then there are a lot of companies who can give you what you are looking for, at an affordable price.
Get Some Bumper Plates
Another way for you to drastically reduce the noise in your home gym would be for you to invest in some bumper plates. The great thing about this is that they make a lot less noise when compared to iron plates and they are also much safer. Consider getting some rubber dumbbells or even some kettlebells if you are worried about the noise, or if you know that there are people who live in the apartment below you.
Get a Mirror
Every gym has a mirror and there is a very good reason for this. To start with, it gives you chance to see your form and it also makes your gym look way bigger than it is. If you do not have a lot of natural light because your gym is in the basement or garage then this is a fantastic way for you to work around that.
Use the Walls for Storage
You might well have to work with a lot of limited space when it comes to your home gym. For this reason, you will need to use wall racks for storage. This will give you a lot of stability and it will also help you to support more equipment. Medicine balls are very useful but at the same time, they can take up a lot of room. If you want to do something about this then investing in some overhead shelves that can take the weight of the ball is always a good idea.
Get a TV
If you want a bit of something extra to add to your home gym then why not think about getting a TV? The great thing about making this kind of investment is that it means you can work out on the treadmill or you can cycle on your exercise bike without having to let your mind wander for entertainment. You can watch your favourite Netflix show and you can tell yourself that you aren’t going to stop until the end of the episode. This is a great way for you to stay motivated and it also means that you have somewhere to unwind when you aren’t working out, which is always a good thing.
Invest in some Speakers
Music is a huge motivating factor when it comes to your gym workout. The fantastic thing about music is that you can blast it whenever you want and you can even get some portable speakers too. Either way, it is very easy for you to push through and you can also listen to whatever it is you want without compromise. Of course, blasting music is the best way for you to keep your friends motivated too, so if you intend on having some people over then this is a very good way to lighten the mood.
