Disclosure: My food at Sunset Bay Club Lobster Palace was covered by Discover Dominica Authority. All opinions are my own.
One of the things I was looking forward to when traveling to Dominica was eating a nice lobster meal. Whether it was int he shell, in a tasty bisque,or as part of another dish, I was;t about to be picky. Caribbean lobsters are much different than what we get in Canada. I was quite excited when I saw that one of the places we were stopping for lunch had “Lobster Palace in the name.
Sunset Bay Club Lobster Palace
The dining area at Sunset Bay Club Lobster Palace is open air, allowing you to enjoy the cool Caribbean breeze while dining. I sat facing the kitchen, so I did not have a view of the beach.
We all ordered the pan fried lobster, as we hadn’t tried the lobster on the island as of yet.
When our plates arrived, we saw a healthy serving of vegetables, and half a small lobster… all on half of the plate. We were all kind of puzzled, as there seemed to be something missing. For a place called “Lobster Palace” we were expecting something a little more substantial. As well, the price indicated there should be more on the plate. So we asked the waitress, and she confirmed that is what you get when you order the pan fried lobster dish.
While everyone was looking down in bewilderment, I looked up and saw the cook standing there looking at us with a big smile on her face. She motioned to me to “sssshhhhh”, as she lifted two plates full of lobsters. I nodded in acknowledgement, and kept it to myself. I honestly wish I would have gotten a picture of the big smile on her face, and the rest of the staff standing behind her looking on, as it was truly priceless. But that would’ve given the joke away, and I truly wanted to see how this all played out.
A few minutes later, she came out with those two plates and placed it on our table. She then went back to the kitchen, and grabbed two more plates full of lobster.
Now I’m not sure if they do this for everyone, or we just had “prank these dudes” written on our foreheads. Either way… well played, chef. Well played. You got us. You got us real good!
We devoured those lobsters like there was no tomorrow, and enjoyed every last bite. The lobster croquets, lobster bisque, and seafood soup were also huge hit.
When all was said and done, and we had eaten to our hearts content, they all came out and offered us a shot of local Island rum. We were all happy to oblige.
