Riverdale

Riverdale is cool new show on Netflix. The Netflix Original series is based on the Archie comic characters, not the comics themselves.

Archie and friends

The show centres around the teens at Riverdale High. Like the comics, Archie Andrews is the main character. He has a passion for music, and attracts a lot of attention from the girls.

Betty Cooper, Jughead Jones, and new girl in town Veronica Lodge are the secondary characters. Reggie Mantle and Moose Mason both have minor roles. There are lots of new characters that round out the awesome cast.

How it all got started

The first episode started with the mysterious death of Jason Blossom. He was out canoeing with his twin sister Cheryl Blossom when things went downhill. Dilton Doiley found Cheryl by the water’s edge, very distraught.

The police dragged the river for days searching for Jason’s body, but could not find him. By the end of the first episode, Kevin and Moose find Jason’s body washed up on the shore of Sweet Water River.

A Neat Comparison

My dad, who also read the comics as a kid, described Riverdale as a cross between the bubble gum pop scene Archie was famous for in his comics, and the 90s show “90210”.

It’s a funny comparison, because Luke Perry, who played Dylan McKay in 90210, plays Archie’s dad Fred Andrews in Riverdale.

Even Josie and The Pussycats are in the series. In the first episode, Archie walks in on their band practice, and there is a bit of tension. They also perform at the prom.

2 Thumbs Up!

I like this show because I enjoy watching thrillers and mystery, and this was both of those combined. It was an amazing show, and I can’t wait for the next episodes to come out!

I would recommend this show to anyone ages 12 and up who love romance, thriller and/or mystery. It has some sensitive and mature themes, unlike the comics which were up beat and happy. Riverdale is made more for kids about my age and older.

What’s new on Netflix?

Julie Andrews (“The Sound of Music” and “Mary Poppins”) makes her Netflix debut in “Julie’s Greenroom”. From the creative minds at the Jim Henson Company, Julie’s Greenroom is an educational show for kids, but will entertain adults as well. Joined by her assistant Gus (Giullian Yao Gioiello), a whole new crew of original puppets called “Greenies”, and throw is some very special guests, Julie’s Greenroom is a recipe for a fun show!

What’s in your Netflix queue?

Got yourself a milkshake from Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe? Here are some rad shows that you can add to your Netflix watch list while enjoying it:

1. Clueless
2. Lemony Snicket’s A Series Of Unfortunate Events

6. Spooksville
7. Holes

  1. Great post! Tell your dad I totally agree with his assessment of the retro show references. :) My 18 year old loves this show too. (And her dad lol.)
Look forward to reading more of your posts in the future.
