Upping my Brush Game with Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum
16 Dec 2013
Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of reviewing the Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum electric tooth brush.
My #NewBDK journey is all about working towards a better me. The health of my teeth are just as important as the health of the rest of me.
I had braces in my late teens. After they were removed my Orthodontist felt it would be best if he put in a permanent retainer. So behind my upper and lower front teeth, I have a permanent retainer glued to my teeth. This has helped keep my teeth very straight. However, it is tough to clean around when brushing.
I have used electric toothbrushes in the past. Although they helped, there was still a lot of build up when I went to the Dentist. After a professional cleaning from the hygienist, the area around the retainer would feel completely different.
In the past 2 weeks of using the FlexCare Platinum, I have been able to reach all areas of my teeth… front, back, behind my back molars, and even around the wire retainer.
I’ve also been drinking healthy green smoothies, which I prepare at home. One of the ingredients I use are chia seeds, which sometimes get caught in my teeth. The FlexCare Platinum is able to get them out without a problem.
My teeth look better, my gums are a bit swollen (due to them finally getting cleaned the way they should be), and I have nothing stuck in my teeth when I turn in for the night. That makes me happy.
The FlexCare Platinum has 6 main features:
InterCare brush head. Each brush head has extra long bristles to fight plaque between teeth, and other bristles to help gingival heath and extrinsic stain removal.
3 cleaning modes. You have the option for clean, white, and gum care. There are also 3 intensity settings: low, medium and high.
Pressure sensor. The FlexCare resonates when you brush too hard. This took me a while to get used to, because I have always brushed too hard. The gentle reminder is awesome.
Quadpacer and Smartimer. The Flexcare is equipped with a timer to ensure you are brushing to the dentist recommended time of 2 minutes. Great feature for young kids and teens, to ensure they are brushing for the right amount of time.
Travel Accesories. Included with the FlexCare is a cool small charger and a travel case, so you can take it with you when on vacation.
UV Sanitizer. Probably the coolest feature of them all, the UV sanitizer kills up to 99% of bacteria and viruses. Just put the brush head into the sanitizer and press the button. A glowing blue light from within the chamber shows that it is on.
The Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum retails for $199.99, and is available now at London Drugs, Amazon, Walmart, Shoppers Drug Mart, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Jean Coutu, and select dental offices.
I have a dentist appointment in late January. I will be giving an update after that visit. The FlexCare Platinum is clinically proven to remove up to 7 times more plaque between teeth, and reduces gingivitis 2 times better than a standard toothbrush, so I am really looking forward to my dentists’ feedback. I’m not going to say anything at first… I just want to hear his reaction.
Do you use an electric tooth brush? If you do, how do you like it? If you don’t, why not?
Would love to hear your feedback.
