When traveling to Philadelphia, many people think of the rich historical sites, the many places to get a steak/cheesesteak sandwich, or the Rocky movie filming locations. But did you know Philly also has some great wineries?

Paradocx Vineyard

Located just an hour or so outside of downtown Philadelphia in the rolling hills of Chester County is Paradocx Vineyard, one of the many wineries in the Greater Philadelphia Area.

Paradox is owned and operated by the Harris and Hoffman families. The four principles are practicing physicians, hence the name “Paradocx” (pair of docs). The full-time staff includes family members and friends.

A Tour of Paradocx

While in Philadelphia, we were treated to a tour of Paradocx Vineyards.

The new tasting room is beautiful. Very roomy, with lots of tables, and a long tasting bar.

paradocx vineyard tour guide

Our tour guide gave us a rundown of all of the wines made and sold at Paradocx Vineyards.

We all fell in love with the “Barn Red”, a wine in sold in this nifty paint can, that can be refilled at the winery.

We then went down to the old tasting room, now called “The Press Room”.

Then we were shown where the wines are made.

We had a fantastic tour of the winery, which ended with another group shot.

Lunch

After the tour, we had a wonderful lunch back upstairs in the tasting room. We started off with a grilled shrimp salad with tarragon and dill served with a 2016 Pinot Grogio.

paradocx vineyard mushroom soup

Next, we had a mushroom soup with sherry and truffle salt, served with a 2016 Pino Blanc.

The main entrée was a penne with tomato creme and wine reduction served with a 2017 Merlot.

For dessert, we had a homemade French custard tart served with the Barn Red.

Lunch was delicious!

Location

Give Paradocx a Try!

There are over 270 wineries in Pennsylvania. Paradocx is a short trip from downtown Philly. If you are in the area, and fancy a wine tasting, give Paradocx Vineyards a try. The food is fantastic, so try and make it there for Sunday Brunch.

As always, drink responsibly.

Cheers,
Big Daddy
