This time last year, I was preparing to go to the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in The Motor City with 149 other bloggers from around the world, courtesy of Ford Canada. It was a tremendous experience… getting to visit Ford World Headquarters; staying at The Henry hotel in Dearborn, Michigan; experiencing the research and development labs and meeting the Ford design teams; seeing the clay sculptors in action, plus getting to participate in some clay sculpting; and of course, the Detroit Auto Show itself, and the introduction of the super sexy all-new 2013 Ford Fusion.

These are the 3 posts I wrote about my experience last year: Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3

Here’s the cool part… last year, I was a guest. This year, I am one of the Ford Canada hosts. I got to send out the invites to the bloggers from Canada, nd help with their registration and travel arrangements. It was really cool being “on the other side”. It is a lot of work, as there are a ton of logistics that need to be worked out, but it is super fun, and the excitement from the invitees has been awesome!

Ford’s NAIAS Digital Summit offers behind-the-scenes access to the inner workings of Ford. Here is a snapshot of some of the events we will be experiencing:

  • Welcome dinner at the famous Henry Ford Museum, featuring exhibits like LEGO Architecture, Presidential Limousines, the bus Rosa Parks famously rode in, and more.
  • Guided tour of the Ford Rouge Factory, where we will see the actual final assembly area where Ford F-150s are made, the factory’s “Living Roof” and more;
  • Test drive Ford’s newest and best vehicles while learning about Ford’s dedication to safety;
  • Visit Detroit’s Tech Shop, which offers the creative community tools, software and space to “build their dreams”. Ford executives will discuss AppLink, Ford’s program that opens up Ford technology to developer ideas;
  • Experience Virtexx, Ford’s driver distraction simulator used to research what causes driver inattention and countermeasures Ford could embed into cars.
  • Learn from Ford’s top sustainability advisors on how Ford impacts the environment and its newest innovations.
  • I’m really looking forward to visiting the Rouge River plant, and going on the factory tour.

    I’m also looking forward to getting to know the 18 bloggers we invited down, and experiencing Ford’s NAIAS Digital Summit with them! It was an incredible experience for me last year, and I am pumped to be one of their Ford hosts this year.

    The same as last year, I will have my camera to capture all the awesomeness that is awaiting me and the others in Detroit Rock City! (yup… I’m a hard core KISS fan)

    Cheers,
    Big Daddy
