Ditch the Console Because Mobile Video and Casino Games Are Moving Ahead on their Own

How do you make a game a hit in 2018 and beyond? The numbers would suggest that any developer looking to spark the public’s interest needs to embrace mobiles. For starters, global mobile gaming revenue topped US$40 billion/CA$50 billion in 2016, while 75% of Apple Store revenue now comes from games. On top of that, by the start of 2017, mobile users spent 43% of their mobile app time playing games. Basically, when you look at the raw data, consumers are clearly moving in the direction of smartphones and tablets.

Casinos Bet on Gaming on the Go

On practical level, there’s a lot of evidence to suggest that gaming operators are making mobile devices a priority. A great example of this transition from desktop to portable entertaining is the casino world. Since the first online casino games went live in the late nineties, the leading platforms have not only expanded their roster of games but their reach. To keep pace with the latest trends, operators now offer a combination of mobile-optimised sites and native apps.

In fact, any company that doesn’t offer mobile betting risks being overlooked in favour of those that do. Indeed, when any prospective player reads through a list of online casino reviews, mobile gaming provisions are also listed. As well as noting whether operators such as Casino Cruise offer mobile access, reviews take into account the selection of games and features apps offer. In today’s market, simply offering mobile access isn’t enough. Payers must also get the same selection of bonuses, payment facilities and security.

Improve Tech Makes Classics Look Even Better

Just as casino developers have embraced portable platforms, console developers have done the same. When you look at the internal mechanics of the latest tablets, it’s easy to see why these transitions have taken place. The iPad Pro, for example, boasts 1668×2224 pixels. In layman’s terms, that resolution is more than enough to show off the latest games in HD quality. In fact, thanks to this sort of visual power, classics such as Mortal Kombat and Tomb Raider now look better than they did in their original formats.

Of course, for a medium to thrive, it can’t simply rely on converting existing products to make them fit into a new platform. Fortunately, that hasn’t been the case when it comes to mobile gaming. Thanks to the advent of augmented reality, the sector has started to pull away from its gaming counterparts and produce some unique products of its own. The best example from the last few years is Pokémon GO. Launched in 2016 as a collaboration between Nintendo and Niantic, the game fused the physical with the virtual as players used a digital overlay to explore their surroundings.

Although some have been critical of the actual gameplay, the experience it offers has never been in doubt. However, without the growth of mobile gaming, a product like Pokémon GO wouldn’t have been possible. Through a combination of improved technology and a shift in player attitudes, mobile video and casino game platforms have flourished as gaming mediums. While the future isn’t likely to see console and PC games fall into the abyss, there’s no doubt the market share of mobiles will increase. So, if you’re wondering what a hit slot game will look like in 2018 and beyond, the answer will be in the palm of your hand.
