A stop at the historic Mariposa Market is a must when visiting Orillia

19 Feb 2018
Entering Mariposa Market is like stepping back in the past. From the turn of the century building it is in, to the smell of fresh baked goods, you’ll feel warm and welcome at Mariposa Market.
Bakery
One step into Mariposa Market and you can smell all of the deliciousness cooking in the bakery. Fresh baked cinnamon buns, cranberry walnut bread, chunky homemade apple fritters, Skor cake, and gooey Apple Pecan Chelseas… oh my! There is something here that everyone would enjoy.
Cafe
Do you want to grab a bite to eat while you are shopping? The Cafe at Mariposa Market will have something to tempt your tastebuds.
Salads, sandwiches, morning pastries, bakery specialties, desserts, wheat-free options, specialty coffees and teas can all be found and enjoyed in the cafe. You can check out their menu ahead of your visit.
The Seasons Shop
This unique space changes with the seasons. When we visited just after Christmas, they had an array of winter decorating items.
As well as the Christmas display, they had many gift ideas, including some very unique winter clothes for all ages. They also had brie bakers and garlic roasters, and other cooking supplies.
The Scents Shop
We only quickly glanced into this store, as the kids were preoccupied with the smell of baked goods, and wanting to find the fudge that was advertised on the sign at the front door.
This Victorian themed shop had a variety of environmentally friendly soaps and scrubs from the Rocky Mountain Soap Company, Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries, Canadian made clothes and accessories, unique jewelry, and Guess purses.
Apple Annie’s
Chocolates, truffles, fudge, gourmet coffees, pottery, and gifts. Annie has something for everyone. When Rachel and Lauren saw the sign that said “fudge”, they asked if we could go check it out. Well, they didn’t have to twist our rubber arm!
We walked around Apple Annie’s on the lower floor and quickly found the fudge counter. Oh my, did they have an awesome selection! The attendant offered Lauren and Rachel samples, which they g;badly accepted!
The fudge was on sale – buy 4 get, two free.
So we walked out with 6 pieces of fudge in a box.
There was also a shelf with candy…
An area where you could sample Orillia Honey…
An assortment of maple syrup…
Lots of local preserves and sauces…
And another sampling area where you could try the dips and spreads.
It’s so wonderful being able to try the various offerings before you buy them.
