Sharing is caring!

As a car owner, you have to learn how to maintain your vehicle. Your car can go a long way with you if you know how to care for it. By keeping up with maintenance schedules, you can always stay safe on the road and prolong its years of service for you and your family. If you want this to happen, you have to take care of and maintain your car the best way you can to make your vehicle last.

Moreover, you have to know what it needs to keep it in excellent condition. That includes checking all its vital parts to function well. That said, this article aims to guide you in maintaining your car.

What Car Maintenance Entails

Checking your car’s condition is one of your duties. You have to confirm a few things before you start your vehicle. It also requires regular maintenance to ensure that all its features function properly. Here are some tips on what you must include in your car maintenance checklist:

Tires

One item you have to inspect and maintain is your tires. You have to learn how to check your car’s tire pressure. Thankfully, most cars have a tire pressure sensor to notify you if you’re running on flats. Knowing when you’re running on low tire pressure can prevent them from damage, and you will get good gas mileage as an effect. The things that you have to learn about tires involve the following:

• Recommended tire pressure
• How to check the PSI measurement
• Inflating or deflating your tire

A flat tire is one hazard your car can face, which is why you must ensure your tires are in good condition to prevent a blowout.

Oil

Another essential item on your checklist is your vehicle’s oil levels. You have to check and change the oil regularly since the oil keeps your car’s engine functional. First and foremost, you can check the oil and change it based on what’s written in the manual. You can change it yourself or take it to your mechanic to maintain your car’s proper lubrication.

Fluids

A car uses various fluids. Each has a required level that you have to maintain to keep your vehicle running correctly. Below are some car fluids you or your mechanic have to check:

• Engine oil
• Coolant
• Power steering, brake, and transmission fluids

Any leak from these fluids can affect your car’s function. It can also keep you off the road for a considerable length of time. Being off the road is not entirely helpful, especially if you run a business dependent on your vehicle. Suppose you’re also running as an independent COD delivery courier service. Your car will clock the miles, so you’ll need to change your fluids more often than usual.

Lights

Each bulb on your car plays a vital role on the road, especially at night. Given this point, you have to ensure that you have no busted lights. Otherwise, you will receive penalties for every nonworking bulb in your car. The lifespan of a typical car headlight is between 500 to 1,000 hours. Knowing this can help prevent having a busted light since you can change them before that happens.

Wiper Blades

Your wiper blades require replacement if they no longer serve their purpose. Below are a few signs that your car wiper blades need replacement:

• Cracks on the wiper’s rubber
• Streaks on windshield
• Squeaking or chattering noises
• Bent or damaged blade frame

Engine Air Filter

A dirty engine air filter can affect your car’s engine. As a result, your car’s efficiency will reduce. For this reason, it is best to check your car’s engine air filter once in a while. You have to replace it, as needed. Otherwise, it becomes clogged.

Brakes

You should not miss this item out. Even brake pads can wear out, so you need to inspect them regularly. Worn-out brake pads create noises, or they can cause your brake pedal to shudder or vibrate. You have to be attentive to these details.

Belts and Hoses

These two items are also vital to keep your car running. You also have to check them to prevent a breakdown on the road. In this case, you can have it checked during your car’s oil change. This way, you can avoid the need to replace them.

Car Wash

Your car needs to bathe, too. You can wash it yourself or let a car wash provider do it for you. Besides, would you like to drive a dirty car down the road? If not, then wash your vehicle regularly and see how it can help you prolong its lifespan.

These items are only a few things you have to do to maintain your car. Aside from that, all of them have their lifespan that you have to monitor. This way, you can replace them as needed.
