There’s nothing better than warming the insides of your body with well-prepared comfort food. A meal that makes you want to take a nap after eating. Well that is how I felt after having lunch at Avelina in Denver Colorado.

Avelina dining room and kitchen

Stepping into Avelina is an experience unto itself. The modern design of the dining room is elegant, yet welcoming. An open concept kitchen allows diners to see the action in the kitchen.

Open for dinner, lunch, happy hour and weekend brunch, the beautiful dining room can seat up to 75 people. The fully stocked bar serves up a multitude of cocktails, spirits, craft beers, and boutique wines.

Executive Chef Joshua Oakley leads the kitchen, with almost 10 years of culinary experience ranging from turn-and-burn to fine dining and farm-to-table. He trained at the Gastronomicom Cooking School of Agde, France with two Michelin star chefs. His menu at Avelina focuses on seasonal New American cuisine.

Avelina is located in the heart of Lower Downtown’s (LoDo) dining scene, just two blocks from Denver’s Union Station.

What We Ate

We got to Avelina restaurant just in time for a late lunch. I quickly skimmed through the menu, but I stopped in my tracks when I saw Shrimp & Grits. I was in the mood for comfort food, and this southern dish was my choice.

Avelina eggs benedict

Annika’s Smoked Salmon Benedict looked fantastic! Bacon, dill, bearnaise, english muffin.

Avelina flat iron steak

The Flat Iron Steak that Raymond had looked delicious! Ramp aioli, asparagus, roasted potatoes, cipollini, blue cheese butter.

Daniella had Colorado’s staple dish, the Pork Green Chili. Sour cream, crispy fingerlings, poached egg, pickled onion, cilantro, grilled tortilla.
