How to Live Your Best Life As You Age

13 Nov 2019
Life probably isn’t as difficult as everyone makes out, but it sure isn’t easy. While everything might seem pretty straightforward when we’re young, once we enter the murky world of adulthood, it does seem like we’re badgered on all sides. Living our best life can seem especially difficult. Sometimes, we look back at the carefree days of youth and wonder how we can get back to those optimistic and bright days. But here’s the thing to remember: it’s always possible to be at your best. Indeed, it’s even easier as an adult, since it’s under your control. You get to decide. Below, we take a look at a few tried and tested methods for feeling thrived, no matter how old you are.
Stay Energetic
You’ll find it extra difficult to be at your best if you don’t have the energy to make things happen. When we’re young, it seems like we’ve got bags and bags of energy to burn. As adults, this is not the case. Our responsibilities and ageing in general can kick the spring out of our step. There are ways to give yourself more energy, however. Make sure you’re getting enough exercise (working up a sweat will give you more energy), and also look at taking up yoga. They say that you stay the age you are when you first begin practising yoga.
Cutting Out Problems
Of course, energy alone won’t bring you happiness and contentment. If there are issues in your life, then you will find that it’s difficult to feel thrived and satisfied. But if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that all problems can be overcome. If you’re working in a dead-end job that you hate, then you can look at re-training, and starting a new career. If you’re unsatisfied with your home life, then you can talk to a family lawyer. If you know that it’s one of your flaws that is bringing you down, then you can work on yourself, and make it part of your history, not your present. You don’t have to settle for how things are when everything can be changed.
How you Spend Your Time
If you’re just working, sleeping, and watching TV, then it’s understandable that you won’t feel all that much in love with life. So change how you spend your time. Look at trying new things, pushing yourself to do more, and sooner rather than later you’ll find that you’ve put that spark of joy back into your existence. Don’t forget the important saying; ‘We are what we do.’
Looking a Fool
There’s oh so much fun to be had in the world. Alas, many of us think that it’s just something for young people. When you’re an adult, you have to be serious. This belief is held by many people, but it’s not even true — the only thing this attitude affects is their own happiness. Allow yourself to look like a fool from time to time. There’s always room for some silliness in life.
Cheers,
Big Daddy
