Disclosure: My food at Islet View Restaurant was covered by Discover Dominica Authority. All opinions are my own.

There’s nothing like a home-cooked meal while traveling. The feeling of warmth when you sit down for a meal of comfort food at a small local restaurant is amazing.

Islet View Restaurant

Located in the hills of Castle Bruce overlooking Castle Bruce Inlets is Islet View Restaurant. Known for their yummy food and 50 variations of homemade rum, I was quite excited to try this local eatery.

There is no official menu. The owner comes out and tells you what he has cooking on that particular day. That being said, it is usually chicken and fish.

On the day we visited, they had smoked chicken, stew chicken, stewed marlin fish, and smoked marlin fish. All dishes come with rice, lentils, and provisions.

What I Ate

We started off our meal with a bowl of the Callaloo Soup with Cod. Admittedly, Caribbean food is not known for being the most appealing, but this soup was off the charts delicious! If you like fish and coconut, this is definitely for you!

Then it was time for a highly recommended order of Plantain Chips with Garlic Aioli Dip. I have had plantain chips many times, but never like this. The plantains were cut like French fries, and deep-fried. A crunch outside that dipped well in the garlic aioli. An awesome and unique starter.

For my main, I had the Smoked Chicken with Rice, Lentils, and Provisions. The chicken was very tender and had a wonderful smokey taste. The provisions included plantains, dasheen, yam, carrots, lettuce, and cucumber.

Well, that was all we ordered. Little did we know, all meals at Islet View Restaurant include a dessert try consisting of fresh fruit (watermelon), sugar cane, freshly made cake, and banana rolls. This was the perfect way t0 end our meal!

But it didn’t stop there. No meal at Islet View Restaurant is complete without a serving of bush rum! You didn’t have to convince this group to try out what Dominica is known for!

One thing that you can say about Dominica is that the people are kind, and the hospitality is amazing. They really do want you to try their food and hope that you will come back again.
