2021 has come and gone, and it seems like in some ways, it was Deja vu of 2020!

This year saw the COVID-19 pandemic continue to change the way we do everything, and forced a second modified lockdown that effected restaurants and other small businesses. There were travel restrictions due to a couple of COVID-19 variants, so we were not able to get down to our campground again this year.

It was also a year of lessons learned for me. I stepped down as an admin in a local community group on Facebook that I am part of. I also had to distance myself from a friend group where a few core members had made the environment very toxic. While people claimed to be my good friends, they sat by silently while I was treated with disrespect. Those aren’t the kind of people I need in my life. There are a few of the guys I miss, but they have all reached out privately and continued to be good friends. Both of these moves were done to avoid drama in my life, and to better my mental health. One thing I have learned over the years is that if something is negatively effecting your wellbeing, remove yourself from the situation. That is exactly what I did. And you know what? It is working.

In the Fall, I joined a pool league, and found it great to be able to get out and socialize with my team and other teams in the league. While I am not the pool player I was in my younger years, the support I get on shots or the game in general from other players on my team is pretty awesome.

2021 also saw a steady decline of health for my parents. It’s been tough watching them go through this, as they have always been very active and vibrant. But with time saved elsewhere, we have been able to spend more time working on the resources needed to keep them safe and comfortable in their own home. I am blessed to have an awesome brother who drives over 500kms every few weeks to help them wherever needed, and that we are both on the same page when it comes to our parents’ wellbeing.

There were also some very special moments in 2021. We spent a lot of quality time together as a family.

Here are some select Instagram photos from this pretty amazing year!
