Our family is getting our 90s fix on @netflix_ca! #StreamTeam #Newstalgia

23 May 2015
When someone asks me to define the movies of the 80s, one name comes up.
John Hughes
Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Weird Science… the list goes on.
Even though Mr. Hughes made movies into the 90s, there was another movie that defined that era. Now don’t get me wrong… there were a ton of great movies in the 90s. Some of my favourites.
But there was one movie that had me singing every song. Had me wanting to be in the movie with the main actor. Pushed itself into the history books, in a hilarious yet serious fashion.
Forrest Gump
Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.
Cast, cinematography, story, acting, soundtrack. It had it all.
If this is a movie you have not yet seen, I highly suggest you see it. I’m not going to give away anything that happens.
I will say that my girls got a real kick out of this movie, and I was so pumped to see they knew a lot of the lyrics to the songs in the soundtrack. Take that, Justin Bieber!
But there was one more movie that, for me, will always be a classic.
A comedy… by a fellow big man… in a movie about the car industry… and freakin’ Bo Derek comes out of a pool in a bikini.
Tommy Boy
Hey Gilligan, did you eat the skipper?
Oh Chris Farley, how you put me in stitches laughing at everything you did. However, Tommy Boy was clearly his best piece of work.
Now the cow tipping scene is pretty funny…
But when I saw this part in the theatre, I couldn’t stop laughing… and every time I see it, it is the same reaction…
Now there is a sad component to this movie, that really tests Tommy Boy’s courage. But he is a Callahan, and he will never give up.
