Fun Activities You Can do with Your Dog

17 Feb 2022
Dogs are known as man’s best friends for a reason. They provide companionship, love, and loyalty, and they’re always happy to see us. But what many people don’t know is that dogs can also be great workout partners. There are plenty of activities you can do with your dog that will get both of you moving and burning some calories.
Let’s take a look at some fun activities you can do with your pup:
Playing games
Another great way to get active with your dog is by playing games. There are many different types of games you can play, and they all provide a good workout for you and your pup. Fetch is always fun if you want to play a low-key game. Many variations of fetch work well for exercising with your dog.
If you’re looking for something a little more strenuous, then playing tug of war or chasing after your pup as they run around the yard can be great ways to get active with your pup. The benefit here is that not only will you both burn calories, but the time spent bonding with each other will strengthen the bond between you even further.
Going on adventures
Going out on adventures together is a great way to have some good old-fashioned fun while also being active and burning calories at the same time. Many people think that going on an adventure means going out into the wild and hiking for miles, but this isn’t always true.
Many times a “simple” walk around town can be an adventure as long as you take it at a good pace and try to experience new things along the way. This might mean exploring new paths or checking out different landmarks in your city or neighborhood. Remember to bring some water with you, as it will come in handy after the adventure is over and you’re ready to cool down.
Playing in the water
Playing in the water is a great way to have some fun and get wet while also active. There are many different types of water activities you can do, and they all provide a good workout for you and your pup.
One of the simplest activities is simply playing in a body of water. This could be a pool, the ocean, a lake, or any other type of body of water. All you need is some sun and some water, and you and your pup will be good to go.
If you want something more strenuous, then swimming is always a good option. Swimming with your dog can be a lot of fun, and it provides a great workout for both of you. Not only will you be burning calories, but you’ll also be strengthening the bond between you and your dog at the same time.
You can even pack your fishing rod, baits, Van Staal reels and go fishing with your dog! Of course, make sure to train them not to disturb the fish so you can bring home some catch too.
Off-leash play
Finally, one of the best ways to exercise with your dog is by playing off-leash at a dog park or other area where dogs are allowed to run around unleashed. This can be a great way for both of you to burn some calories and have fun while doing it. To make sure this experience doesn’t turn into a nightmare of injuries and missed opportunities, keep these things in mind:
Make sure the ground is free from holes – If there’s any chance that your pup could fall into a hole or get injured on broken glass or another sharp object, don’t let them go out there until you know for sure.
Only let them off-leash if it’s safe – Make sure that all of the dogs around you are friendly and under control before letting your pup loose to play with them. You don’t want to risk the possibility of any fights breaking out over an exuberant but otherwise harmless game of fetch.
Let them come to you if they’re overwhelmed – If there is too much going on in the park, or if they get overwhelmed by all the other dogs in the area, then let your dog come back to you for a break when they need one. They will thank you later when their brain isn’t boiling out of their skull from sensory overload.
You and your dog can go on adventures, play in the water or even explore a new park while getting active. These activities burn calories and strengthen the bond you share. Which activity sounds like it would be best for you two?
Cheers,
Big Daddy
