One of the things I love about traveling is discovering new places, cultures, cuisines, and learning about the destination’s history. When you are so immersed in the stay that you lose track of time, you know you have found a destination worth revisiting. That is the Fort Young Hotel in Roseau Dominica.
Fort Young Hotel
On a recent trip to Dominica, I had the chance to stay at the Fort Young Hotel for a few days. Named after the island’s first British Governor, this beautiful property is situated on the shores of the Caribbean Sea.
Fort Young Hotel may have opened its doors in 1964, but there is so much history that predates the hotel’s opening. Originally a military fort, then a central police station, and now a hotel. Its position in the main marina in Roseau served well for all of these functions and gives Fort Young Hotel its unique character.
There are so many luxurious amanitas at Fort Young Hotel. From the welcoming infinity pool and hot tub to a spa treatment in the comfort of your room or on your balcony, Fort Young Hotel has it all. There is also a bar and a restaurant with a terrace overlooking the water.
Take part in a yoga class that can benefit your mental, physical, and spiritual well being. Underwater adventure day trips are available in partnership with Dive Dominica. The Dive Shop carries everything you need for an ultimate underwater scuba diving experience.
I am all about quality family time, so I’m always on the lookout for great options for my entire family. Fort Young Hotel is very family-friendly. There are several adjoining rooms to accommodate larger families. Child friendly meals are offered at the hotel’s restaurants and cafes. There are lots of activities and excursions available for the whole family. And, of course, the fantastic Kids Club program.
Traveling with younger children? Don’t worry – they won’t feel left out at Fort Young Hotel. Kids Club offers children aged 3-12 years the opportunity to have fun days filled with activities, storytelling, crafts, and games.

If visiting the nearby islands is in the cards, the concierge at Fort Young Hotel can help facilitate. The ferry terminal is only a one minute walk from the hotel. At the terminal, you can buy your tickets, then board a 300 or 400 seat catamaran to travel to the neighbouring islands of Guadeloupe, St. Lucia, or Martinique. These islands are within an hour ferry ride of Dominica.
As Fort Young Hotel is situated on the western shores of Dominica, watchign the sun set over the Caribbean Sea is something to make sure you do. Whether in the infinity pooll hot tub, or sitting on your balcony, a Dminican sunset is one you do not want to miss!
The main desk is just inside the front entrance. Check in is simple – give them your name and they take care of the rest. 10 minutes later, you ar eon your way to your room with keycard in hand.
Fort Young Hotel features beautiful rooms with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Each room has a private balcony or terrace, a safe for your valuables, flatscreen TV, coffee machine, and a mini-fridge. The hotel has complimentary Wi-Fi for its guests.
My Guest Room
My room was very spacious, with a beautiful view of the Caribbean Sea. Large king size bed, couch, desk, dresser with flatscreen TV
massive washroom with soaker tub, sink with hairdryer and mirror
and a separate area with a big mirror for getting ready. There is also a mini-fridge under the desk area.
We indulged in a BBQ dinner on the night we arrived. Your choice of steak, shrimp, or fish, with salad, potatoes, pasta, and dessert. All while listening to the waves crash on the rocks below.
For the 3 mornings we were there, we enjoyed the buffet breakfast on the second floor terrace. They had everything from eggs, bacon, sausages, bake, pancakes, waffles, oatmeal, fresh fruit, various breads, cocoa tea, and fruit juices. There was also a omelette station, where you could order a custom omelette.
