Disclosure: Our stay was covered by Viamede Resort. All opinions are my own.

Just a short 2 and half hour drive north east of Toronto, Viamede Resort sits on 170 acres, with 2000 feet of waterfront, on picturesque Stoney Lake.

I had seen a lot of reviews on this resort. I was looking forward to seeing and experiencing all that Viamede Resort had to offer, from a family perspective.

Arrival at Viamede Resort

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the receptionist. He gave us a basic rundown of the resort, the restaurants, the activities while we were staying, and the amenities available.

The front foyer of the main building had a sitting area with magazines to read, and a large fish tank.

Dog Friendly

For the most part, we are a camping family, so our Border Collie mix Storm travels with us. She is a rescue dog, who quite enjoys the outdoors, and sitting with us by the campfire. When we do travel to places where we are required to stay in a hotel, we board her.

Viamede is a pet friendly resort, and there is no extra fee to bringing your dog. This is very important to us, as our girls love it when Storm travels with us. That being said, we booked two rooms in the Hilltop Lodge that were not pet friendly, and boarded Storm, so that we would could concentrate on properly reviewing everything that Viamede Resort had to offer.

Those who do bring their dogs will be happy to know there is a fully enclosed leash free dog park at Viamede.

There is much to do at Viamede Resort, all of which are weather dependent:

• Playscape (outdoor playground with slide, climbing apparatus, and sandpit)
• Assorted sports equipment
• 6km of trails

There are also boats available to rent, if you want to do your own tour of Stoney Lake, or go fishing on your own.

Each room comes with a DVD player, so you can watch movies you have brought, or borrow one from the video library in the reception area.

We took the girls to see the farm, where the herbs and root vegetables served at Viamede’s restaurants are grown.

As well, we were able to see some of the animals being raised for the farm-to-table program.

Vacation Packages

There are many packages available to suit your vacation needs. Pricing for Viamede is quite competitive for the surrounding area. The Kawarthas are a much more affordable option to the Muskokas. There are several vacation packages to choose from.

Getting Married?

Viamede is completely equipped to host your wedding. From lakeside courtyards to a 19th century chapel, you can choose the backdrop for your ceremony.

Menu can be a traditional 4-course meal, as well as other options like cocktail dinners, a hog roast (farm raised), or carving station.

Viamede Resort: The Verdict

From what we saw and experienced, Viamede Resort is a really nice resort, with a very friendly and welcoming staff. It can easily compete with some of the resorts in the Muskoka region. The grounds are beautiful, and Stoney Lake is very picturesque. Oh, and the food… well that deserves its own post, and you WILL want to read it!

We enjoyed our time at Viamede Resort, and had a relaxing long weekend. We would return in a heartbeat!

If you are looking to get away on a personal retreat, or enjoy some R&R with your family for a couple of days, Viamede Resort is the destination for you. It would even make for a great romantic getaway for a couple.

Cheers,
Big Daddy
