Ah, the open road – there’s something truly special about taking a road trip and cruising through some of America’s most beautiful landscapes. This is especially true for Tennessee; whether you’re traveling from bustling cityscapes to tranquil countryside scenes or vibrant mountain landscapes – this state has it all! And if you set out on a road trip in Tennessee, you’ll be sure to encounter plenty of scenic drives, delicious food stops, amazing places to stay, and fun activities along the way.
And that is exactly what we encountered on our recent visit to the Nashville area with Mitsubishi Motors. We got to experience the sights and sounds of Tennessee in the all-new 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander plug-in hybrid – fun experiences, unique places to stay, incredible food, and scenery that can only be seen in the volunteer state.
The All-New 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV
As one of the most anticipated hybrid SUVs of the year, the all-new 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is packed with features that make it a top contender in its class. It was named “Best Mid-Size Utility Vehicle in Canada for 2023” by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC). From its fuel-efficient performance to its spacious and comfortable interior, this SUV has a lot to offer.
At the heart of the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV lies a powerful and fuel-efficient hybrid engine. A Cosy Night Under the Stars at Getaway Dale Hollow
Let’s face it. We all need some rest and relaxation from time to time. If you find yourself in Nashville and are looking for a quick escape into nature, the tiny cabins at Getaway Dale Hollow are the perfect spot for you. Located 2 hours east of Nashville, this idyllic retreat offers peace, tranquility, and stunning natural surroundings. Getaway Dale Hollow is a delightful location for a short break or an extended vacation. The location is excellent for families, couples, or solo travelers looking to unwind.
This charming destination offered us a serene and picturesque escape for our first night in Tennessee. The drive to Getaway Dale Hollow had us driving on highways, winding backroads, and even dirt roads. The 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV kept us comfortable the entire way.
Nestled in the verdant woods, each cabin is meticulously designed to provide you with a comfortable and cozy stay. Even though these cabins are small, they come with queen-sized beds and fully equipped kitchens… everything you need for a relaxing getaway. The massive wall-sized window beside the bed allows you to wake up and see the nature that surrounds you. Keep the blinds open for a wonderful experience!
There’s also a spot to sit outside in Adirondack chairs around your own fire pit to soak up nature. You can breathe in the fresh air, take in the gorgeous surroundings, and hear the sounds of the local wildlife.
And you can’t stay at a secluded cabin in the woods and not have a BBQ dinner! Roadhouse Grille Food Truck out of Nashville came out to prepare a slow and low BBQ meal for us to enjoy. Smoked brisket, pulled pork, baby back ribs, pulled chicken, potato salad, green beans, and slaw. They even had freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and chocolate and vanilla ice cream! The food was amazing!
When the sun set, we relaxed around the campfire in our GCI Outdoors Freestyle Rocker XL and Kickback Rocker camping chairs, and sipped cocktails from our ORCA Tini Insulated Sipping Cups, while watching the stars dance in the clear night sky. It was the perfect end to a beautiful day.

A Stop in Historic Lynchburg
You can’t come down to Tennessee and not drive through the quaint town of Lynchburg! As our gracious hosts built in ample time to get between locations, we asked for permission to take a slight detour to Lynchburg.
Nestled in the heart of Tennessee, Lynchburg is a charming town that has captured the hearts of locals and travelers alike. With its picturesque views, historic landmarks, and Southern hospitality, Lynchburg is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the state. Take a stroll down Main Street, and you’ll find quaint shops, adorable cafes, and friendly locals eager to welcome you.
And of course, no visit to Lynchburg would be complete without a trip to the famed Jack Daniel’s Distillery, where visitors can learn about the process of making the world’s most popular whiskey.
Don’t miss out on the Lynchburg Hardware and General Store, where you can stock up on unique souvenirs and sample some mouthwatering fudge. The picturesque scenery of Lynchburg will leave you breathless. It’s hard not to fall in love with the friendly locals who are always willing to share a story or two about their beloved town. There’s no better place to experience the true spirit of Tennessee than in beautiful Lynchburg.
Driving the High Speed and Off Road Tracks at Polecat Training Center
Our next stop was where we got to truly test out the performance and capabilities of the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Nestled in the lush greenery of Fayetteville, Tennessee lies Polecat Training Center, a state-of-the-art driving track that serves as the ultimate destination for anyone seeking to indulge their need for speed.
Designed specifically for high-speed driver training, this track offers drivers the ultimate test of car control and reaction time. Boasting an impressive 2-mile race course that’s been designed to challenge even the most seasoned racers, the Polecat Training Center is the perfect spot for all adrenaline junkies.
Before getting to drive the tracks, we had a briefing on the capabilities of the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Mitsubishi product managers and Polecat Training Center driving instructors were on hand to answer all of our questions, and to ensure we felt completely safe on the track.
As we entered the paddock, we were informed by our instructor to switch the driving mode to “tarmac”, which would allow the vehicle to drive at higher performance levels on dry pavement. We drove one lap at regular speeds to get a feel for the course. Once we finished the first lap, the instructor turned up the speed and let loose on the track. It was exhilarating! The 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV hugged each corner like it was on rails. I took wide turns and accelerated right out of the turns, never touching the brakes until we were coming to the end of our lap.
The off-road track is one-of-a-kind and was custom-designed to test the driver’s skills and push the limits of the driver and vehicle. And that is exactly what it did for our group. About halfway through the paved course, you drive onto the grass and enter the narrow off-road course carved into the dense forest. We were informed by our instructor to switch the driving mode to “Mud”, as this would effectively turn off the traction control allowing the wheels to spin in case the vehicle got stuck in a rut. The course took us through steep hills, rocky climbs, and sharp curves, presenting new challenges at every turn. The Outlander PHEV tackled them like a champion, and its agile handling allowed me to conquer the tricky terrain with ease. The twin motor 4WD design features a more powerful rear motor than the front, delivering exceptional traction, stability, and handling.
We stopped on a grassy hilltop to take some photos of the vehicles. It was only then that I realized how high up in the hills we were. Despite the rugged terrain, riding in the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV felt luxurious, with its spacious interior, and comfortable seats.
We then drove through the rest of the off-road track, back onto the last part of the fast track, and into the parking lot where we stopped for bathroom breaks. It was time to drive to our next destination in Nashville.

A Relaxing Night at Hotel 1 Nashville
Situated in the heart of Music City, Hotel 1 Nashville is truly a unique gem in Tennessee’s capital. With its striking contemporary design and convenient location, it’s no surprise that this hotel has quickly become a favourite among travellers who want to experience all that Nashville has to offer.
During my stay at the Hotel 1 Nashville on our second night, I was blown away by the level of hospitality I received. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I was greeted with warm smiles and friendly faces all around.
The rooms were impeccably clean and beautifully designed, with every modern amenity I could possibly need. It’s impressive how every detail has been thought of, from the comfortable bed to the well-stocked mini-fridge. The complimentary Wi-Fi was solid and worked seamlessly, which is important to me. And the location was absolutely unbeatable, with easy access to some of the best attractions that Nashville has to offer, and stunning views of the surrounding cityscape.
The fresh apples at the Farm Stand in the lobby were a really lovely touch. The various types of apples are locally sourced and sustainably harvested, ensuring that not only are they delicious, but they are also environmentally conscious. It’s the perfect snack to fuel up before exploring all that Music City has to offer.
And if you are ready to indulge in a mouth-watering meal that will leave your taste buds dancing with delight, look no further than 1 Kitchen located right on site. The Nashville Chicken Sandwich will transport you to flavour nirvana. Crispy chicken tossed in a spicy and tangy sauce, topped with Habagardil pickles, house slaw, pepperjack cheese, and served on a brioche bun. And don’t forget about the side of truffle fries that are fried to crispy perfection and seasoned with delectable truffle oil. The combination of flavours will make you feel like you’ve hit the culinary jackpot. Of course, there are many other items to choose from, but did you even Nashville if you didn’t try the Nashville Chicken Sandwich?
Make sure you check out Harriet’s Rooftop on the 19th floor, a beautiful space on the rooftop where you’ll experience stunning views of the city skyline and a great selection of cocktails and snacks.
But the best part of the stay was the hotel’s location – just a short walk from all the honky tonks and live music venues that Nashville is known for, like the Country Music Hall Of Fame and Museum. The combination of top-notch service, stylish accommodations, and prime location make it the perfect choice for anyone visiting Music City.

Dinner at Yolan
For our last dinner in Nashville, we went to Yolan to indulge in delicious Italian fare. With its sleek and sophisticated decor, Yolan offers not just delicious cuisine but also a memorable dining experience. With a focus on hospitality, Yolan invites diners to relax and enjoy a memorable meal. From handmade pasta to locally sourced meats and veggies, every dish is crafted with care and a commitment to quality. But what really sets Yolan apart is the atmosphere. The elegant, yet relaxed space is the perfect spot for a romantic evening or a celebratory dinner with friends. And for those who enjoy a good cocktail, Yolan has an impressive bar that serves up unique and creative libations.
James Beard Award-winning and Michelin-starred Chef Tony Mantuano prepared a tasting menu for our group that was absolutely amazing from the beginning to the end. Chef Mantuano’s brigade are true artists in the kitchen, and the care and attention that goes into every dish is evident from the first bite.
For our first course, we were served corn baba with black summer truffle and oyster with melon granita. This dish combined the sweetness of corn with the earthy richness of truffles and the refreshing sweetness of melon. The oyster added a briny depth to the dish, creating a perfectly balanced flavour profile. The presentation was breathtaking, as the dish was beautifully arranged with delicate care.
Our second course was Caprese, consisting of perfectly ripened sungold tomatoes, rich and creamy burrata, and a sprinkle of fresh basil leaves. Each ingredient was hand-picked and generously portioned, ensuring that every bite was a delight for our senses.
For our third course, we enjoyed a creamy Risotto allo Scoglio, infused with the rich flavours of white wine, garlic, onion, and herbs. It was a perfect foundation for the delicately cooked scallops, mussels, squid, and shrimp. Every bite was an irresistible explosion of flavours and textures.
Our fourth course was my favourite – Tortelli “alla Genovese.” These delicate and perfectly crafted pockets of pasta were filled with savoury braised beef short rib, finished in a rich and flavourful sauce, drizzled with a balsamic reduction, and topped with grated Parmigiano-Reggiano. The dish was a true masterpiece, delivering a perfect balance of flavours and textures that left my taste buds singing.
For our fifth course, we noshed on Parmigiana di Melanzane, layers of breaded eggplant baked with rich tomato jam, melted scamorza, and freshly grated parmesan. One bite in and I was transported to the rolling hills of Tuscany. It was so good!
Our sixth course saw us indulging on Spigola, a beautifully prepared Mediterranean Sea Bass that was cooked to perfection. The dish was served with chanterelles and zucchini alla scapece that perfectly complemented the delicate flavours of the fish.
To finish off our amazing dinner, we had Delizia al Limone, a delightful Italian delicacy that featured layers of sponge cake soaked in sweet limoncello liquor and creamy lemon curd. It was finished off with whipped mascarpone cheese, candied lemon zest, hazelnut praline, garden thyme, baba, and lemon chiboust. The flavours were perfectly balanced – the tangy, zesty lemon was perfectly complemented by the creamy texture and light sweetness of the mascarpone.
What an incredible meal! The attentive and knowledgeable staff make excellent wine and cocktail pairings, which only enhance the dining experience. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just treating yourself, dinner at Yolan is an experience you won’t forget.

Visiting the Country Music Hall of Fame
I couldn’t go to Nashville and not visit The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, especially since it was only 2 blocks from my hotel. Located in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee, visitors can explore the rich history of country music and its legends. As a music lover, I was blown away by the rich history and fascinating evolution of the country music genre in the United States. It was like being transported back in time to the origins of country music, and learning about the trailblazing artists who paved the way for the genre we all know and love today.
I found the exhibits to be both informative and engaging, as they showcased the iconic artists who have made country music what it is today. From Hank Williams and Patsy Cline to the newer chart-toppers like Luke Bryan and Eric Church, the museum left no stone unturned.
There is even an interactive Taylor Swift exhibit that allows you to step inside a recording booth and record your own country music song. The museum had an impressive collection of artifacts, including vintage instruments, costumes, and handwritten lyrics, that really brought the experience to life. And if you’re interested in the behind-the-scenes workings of the music industry, the Hall of Fame’s interactive displays and videos allow you to explore the world of country music production and marketing.
It is a great opportunity to get an insight into the lifestyle of country artists, their struggles, successes, and their roles in shaping the music industry over the years.
I left feeling inspired by the incredible journey that country music has taken and grateful for the opportunity to witness such a significant piece of American musical history. If you’re a fan of country music or just appreciate the art form, this museum is an absolute must-see. The Country Music Hall Of Fame and Museum will leave you entertained, enlightened, and even more appreciative of the genre.
