Whole Room Humidification: Putting the Dyson Humidifier to the test! @Dyson #review #ad
05 Mar 2018
Rachel has been getting nose bleeds in the past few months. They are occurring mostly in her room. It’s understandable… her room is right above the garage, and we have had a pretty cold and dry winter. The air in her room is quite dry. We needed to add humidity to the air in her room.
Enter the Dyson Humidifier.
The folks at Dyson were kind enough to let me test out the new Dyson Humidifier. We had the perfect conditions in Rachel’s room for testing out it’s features.
Seeing the Dyson Humidifier in action at the Dyson Demo Store
One of the great things about the new Dyson Demo Store is you are able to talk to the product experts about anything in the Dyson lineup.
“We’ve opened the Demo Store, and started this concept because we have so many technologies in our products, and it’s extremely difficult in third party retailers, to actually explain to consumers, what’s inside the product, why they’re better, to talk about our digital motors, to talk about our air flow, our acoustics, our electronics, our sensors. And now, connected products and apps. So we’ve started Demo Stores to explain to consumers first hand everything about the products inside and out. And also allow consumers to actually use the products and understand this themselves.” ~ Jake Dyson
I was at the opening of the Toronto Dyson Demo Store, and saw first hand the benefits of Dyson having their own store.
“We also don’t want to be alongside our competitors with inferior technology.” ~ Jake Dyson
That’s really important if you already know you are looking for a Dyson product, which are well known for their high quality. At third-party vendors, there is usually no one there to tell you about the features in a product, and even if there were, they are not Dyson product experts. At most retailers, the products just sit on a shelf. You are expected to have done your research already (if at all), or are making a purchase based on lowest price point. I have always maintained that “you get what you paid for”, and in my experience, it has always rung true.
Putting the Dyson Humidifier to the Test
Setting up the humidifier was very easy. It comes in 3 parts: the base, the tank and the fan on top. Place the base 1m away from any walls. Then you invert the tank, fill it to the top and screw in the cap. Put the tank on the base and then click the fan into position on top. Done!
You can turn the machine on with the power button on the machine, but the more advanced functions are easily controlled using the remote control. You can change the fan speed and increase or decrease the percent humidity emitted. In the winter, it is best that the humidity of a room be between 30-50% humidity to prevent nosebleeds. You don’t want to go over 50% as that could lead to dust mite infestations.
Even when running on its highest fan setting, the Dyson humidifier is not very loud. This is particularly important for us, since we need to run the Dyson overnight while Rachel is sleeping. She usually runs a fan for white noise, but we wouldn’t want the fan disturbing her sleep.
One really nice feature of the humidifier is that it “uses Ultraviolet Cleanse technology, exposing every drop of water to an ultraviolet light” which kills 99% of bacteria, including E. coli, in the water before it blows it around the room. Most humidifiers just blow the mist into the air and bacteria is allowed to build up which could cause illnesses.
To maintain this level of purity, the Dyson humidifier requires you to follow simple weekly and monthly cleaning routines:

Recommended! Using the Dyson Humidifier in Rachel’s room has added humidity, as well as a much needed fan to help circulate the air. As well, it is aesthetically pleasing, so it fits in well with the simple decor she has chosen for her room.
And… she hasn’t had a nose bleed since we added the Dyson Humidifier to her room. Yay!
