Live Big: A week away from my family. #StormLiveBig

We just returned from a week long trip to Montego Bay in Jamaica. The trip was amazing! We had so much fun, got lots of sun, ate a lot of delicious food, and drank piña coladas and margaritas all week!

A week away sounds great for us, but it is not something you can take your pet to. So, we had to board Storm at a kennel for the week.

Luckily, we have found a kennel that Storm really loves. From the moment we pull into the parking lot, Storm starts to get excited. When we walk int he front door, Storm lets everyone know she is there, and has to greet them all with hugs and kisses. Of course, she till has that puppy bladder, so she leaves a little puddle too. She has her own week away!

Preparing for her stay.

In preparation for Storm’s stay at the kennel, we have to make sure all of her food is proportioned out for each meal. She eats 1 cup of food, 3 times a day. For a week long stay (dropping her off the day before, and picking her up the day after), that is 27 meals. We always drop off a few extras (2 days worth), just in case. However, the kennel does have food for emergencies.

We pre-portion the food into re-sealable bags or containers, and ask them not to throw them away when they are empty. We reuse them for other times we need to portion Storm’s food.

In case “just in case” happens.

Remember earlier when I said “just in case”? Well, just in case happened to us on our last trip. When we got to the airport, we were told our flight had been cancelled due to a medical emergency on the flight inbound. So we were stuck in Jamaica for another day. This is where I am so glad we prepare for these types of things. We all had 2 days worth of extra clothes, and Storm had 2 days worth of extra food.

Going away is tough with a pet.

The hardest part about going away on vacation is leaving Storm behind. Knowing she is at a place that she loves, and that we love as well, helps ease our stress. As well, that she is being fed the food she loves, and playing with the toys she does at home, makes her feel more comfortable. We always pay extra for snuggle time (which Storm loves), extra walks and playtime, and a bath at the end, so she comes home looking and smelling fresh after her week away at her pet resort!
