Stay In Shape: 6 Ways To Stay Active While Traveling
20 May 2022
Traveling is very important in many ways. It ensures that there is a change of environment for some time which may be necessary for someone who needs a change to a bad mood. It inspires us to see, taste, and try new things. Sometimes, you just need to get out of that comfort zone, meet with different people, embrace adventure, and share new and meaningful experiences with friends and loved ones. Depending on how long you are away, staying active is very important. So, pack as many workout clothes as possible to have no excuse to stay inactive throughout. Here are some ways to stay active while traveling.
Take some workout equipment with you
While packing for the journey, there is some less bulky workout equipment that you can take with you. A mat, dumbbells, and skipping rope are perfect examples. If you are doing a road trip, you can pack all those equipment in the trunk of your car. The desire and encouragement to use those workout equipment come naturally if you have been used to them and they are within proximity. You can also check out some routine videos online about exercises to take on while traveling. That should help you also.
Stay active throughout the journey
Traveling can make you sit for very long periods if the journey is a long one. You may not even remember that you have sat for so long unless you are conscious of how active you are. Sitting for a long period isn’t good for your health. So, you can wear walking or running shoes during such journeys so that you can easily stroll through the airport terminal whenever there are delays or time permits. It is better than just sitting and waiting for the delay to last when you are still going to sit when you take off. If you will be driving, you can take breaks to get out and stretch. If by train, walk through the cars occasionally. You can even check to see if the airport has a gym in the case of any delay so you can use its services. Make sure not to miss your plane though.
Make use of the stairs
If you have a flight of stairs in your hotel, it is a great advantage for you. You can even make it a point of duty to lodge in a hotel that has a flight of stairs. These hotels will definitely have elevators but if you wish to stay active and you didn’t come with any workout equipment, you can use the stairs as your workout venue. You can set a time limit of 20 minutes to run up and down the stairs as fast as you can. If you can’t run, just walk up and down on them but extend the timing to say 40 mins. Climbing the stairs is good for the heart and for building strength.
If you are doing your journey yourself, or you went on tour or vacation, you can stop by any mountain area where you can go hiking. It is one of the best experiences you can have when traveling because apart from the hiking experience, you get to see the great outdoors and the beauty of nature. Know your degree of difficulty in the terrain covered and even in distance. Hiking is a beautiful experience that you will forget it is a form of exercise for you. While at it, be security conscious. Don’t go to lonely mountains and do not visit places you have no clue about.
Take that bike instead of cabs
When you are traveling, you don’t have to take a cab for every short journey that you have to make in between the long ones. You can bike them out. Your concern will be how to take a bike along, but it is not a problem in some places because you can get to rent a bike for some time. It could be for just exercising or for making those short trips. If you love biking and are going on a vacation, you can go to cities that are made for cyclings like Copenhagen and Amsterdam. Biking helps you maintain good mental health and also helps with deep sleeping, which replenishes tired cells in the body.
This is one of the easiest exercises to perform anywhere. The benefits are endless but it sure helps clear the mind, bringing peace and quiet within you. When traveling, yoga will keep you energized and give you a good stretch after all the walking you will have to do. If the road is bumpy, you can park somewhere after some hours of driving, take out your mat and do some yoga to get energized.
If you have been working very hard to stay fit with different routines of exercise, why stop now just because you will be out traveling for a few days or weeks? Exercising requires continuous efforts every day or at least every other day, especially if you are exercising for a particular reason like shedding off some weight. If you make it a point of duty to stay active while traveling, you can achieve it. You have to take that decision first. Don’t know how to achieve this during your journey? Check out these tips above and you are good to go.
