Career Milestone: 5 Years leading Ford of Canada’s Community Management Team.

I became the Senior Community Manager for Ford Canada on April 18th, 2012.

It still feels surreal. 18 months earlier… I had lost my job. I was not in a good place. It was the first time I had ever lost a job.

It was a long 18 months. In today’s workforce, if you have less than a year, or more than 5 years experience, it is a lot tougher to find a job (in the field I was working in). They want someone with experience, but not too much experience that they cannot afford you. Because of this, I decided to build my business rather than look for another job.

In that 18 months, I met some great people, started freelancing for a few magazines, started a blog, wrote some cool articles, reviewed several vehicles, worked with some fantastic brands, and attended some awesome events… all to get my name out there. I even spoke at a conference, which was totally out of my comfort zone.

Senior Community Manager

Working with Ford has been awesome. I work with an amazing staff. I have been to many events. I have met so many wonderful people.

Like William Clay “Bill” Ford, Jr., great-grandson of Henry Ford, executive chairman of Ford Motor Company, and owner of the Detroit Lions.

5 years starting with SJR

2017 – New Beginnings

January 2017 saw me and my community management team move to a new company – SJR Strategies. SJR is the agency that handles digital creative and the blog for Ford. With the move saw a new title for me – Director of Community Management.

It’s been a great year, with many new opportunities, and ways for our team to be integrated more into the creative process.

5 years sign on desk

When you love the company you work for, you go the extra mile without being asked.

When you love the brand you represent, you live it, at and away from work.

When you love the team you work with, you enjoy working that much more. Some days, it doesn’t feel like a job. It feels like an extension of my personality… my life.

5 Years has passed so quickly. There have been many great moments, and all of them included this team.

I’m so blessed to have such an amazing team! A big thank you to former team members as well… these past 5 years could not have been successful without you.

Looking forward to many more years with this team, and Ford Canada.
