2022 IONIQ 5 Preferred AWD Long Range intro

The 2022 IONIQ 5 Preferred AWD Long Range is one of the most advanced and capable electric vehicles on the market. Put simply, this model is one of the most cutting-edge vehicles around which will provide years of practical yet luxurious motoring pleasure.

This being my first fully electric vehicle review, I did have some range anxiety and scoped out some level 3 chargers in the area. I was disappointed to see that most of the ones located within 30 minutes of me were out of service. Luckily, I found a few in Cambridge at the ONroute that were functional, which was only an hour’s drive away. I also got acclimated with EV Apps ChargePoint, Ivy, PlugShare, and FLO to help with my week in the IONIQ 5 and for future EV reviews.

Let’s take a closer look at the 2022 IONIQ 5 Preferred AWD Long Range.

2022 IONIQ 5 Preferred AWD Long Range Exterior

Exterior

When it comes to the exterior of the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5, this fully electric crossover packs a lot of style. From its unique headlight design to its side profile, the IONIQ 5 boasts a sleek, modern look that looks more like a sleek concept car than an everyday vehicle. The aerodynamic exterior has been carefully crafted for maximized efficiency on the road and helps keep energy costs down.

It was really difficult to see where Hyundai was going with the design of this vehicle. Depending on who you talk to, they either love or dislike the modern meets retro look. I’m closer to the love side, as I think it is much different than anything on the market with its modern styling and overall aesthetic appeal.

2022 IONIQ 5 Preferred AWD Long Range Interior

Interior

The 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 is a great choice for those seeking a luxurious interior. Its spacious cabin offers plenty of head and legroom for occupants in every seat, while its premium materials give it an extra level of comfort. This is super important to me as I am tall and need the head and leg room. The position of the B-pillar does not get in the way of entering or exiting the vehicle, which for a bigger guy is a big bonus. The interior of the IONIQ 5 is incredibly quiet thanks to extra insulation dampening outside noise and wind turbulence created from driving at different speeds. On top of all this, the generous cargo space makes the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 ideal for travelers or families looking for getaways.

Comfort

With its comfortable leather seating, and fully adjustable steering wheel, the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 is an incredibly inviting car. 2022 IONIQ 5 Preferred AWD Long Range Tech

Tech

The 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 is packed with amazing technological features. From exterior cameras that can be used to spot objects and alert you if any of them are in your blindspot while driving, to a dual-screen digital display dashboard, this vehicle has all that one could need and more.

The large mid-dash 12″ touchscreen located beside the digital gauge cluster is clear and intuitive, allowing you to control the tech in the vehicle. One of the only cons I found on this vehicle was the reflection on the side window from this large panel. No matter how much I reduced the brightness, it reflected on the window causing a distraction, day or night. The second con was the absence of a much-needed rear wiper.

Remote Smart Parking Assist is a really cool feature that allows you to pull the IONIQ 5 in and out of a parking spot while you are outside your vehicle, using the controls on the key fob. On top of this, the IONIQ 5 offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a voice assistant, and multiple USB ports for your devices.

With these cutting edge features, Hyundai is truly pushing their technology forward and putting out a quality vehicle that’ll make any driver happy.

2022 IONIQ 5 Preferred AWD Long Range Storage

Storage

The 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 offers plentiful cargo volume due to its long wheelbase, giving drivers the best of both worlds when it comes to convenience and practicality. With 59.3 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the front row seats, you can easily travel with multiple passengers, plenty of luggage, or extra cargo for your next adventure. The front trunk, or frunk, is rather small, but there is enough room in the rest of the vehicle to make up for it. The hatchback design opens up to a generous 27.2 cubic feet of cargo space, making it perfect for groceries, sports equipment, or even helping your friends move. Even with a full load of passengers, the IONIQ 5 still offers plenty of trunk space with 19 cubic feet – far more than some smaller SUVs and crossovers out there.

Living on Video by Trans-X

The IONIQ 5 reminded me so much of the 80s. The retro feel with the pixelated lights made me feel like I was in a video game. Although the vehicle does look futuristic, it has that throwback to a time when 8-bit graphics were all the craze. So the synth-pop tune “Living on Video” was the perfect fit for the IONIQ 5.

“Give me light, give me action,
At the touch of a button,
Flying through hyper-space,
In a computer interface.”

I really hope you enjoyed this edition of Motor & Music featuring the 2022 IONIQ 5 Preferred AWD Long Range and Living on Video by Trans-X.
