11 Questions with… Alyssa Hart. @amotherhoodblog #bdk11Qs
10 Dec 2018
Welcome to “11 Questions with…”. This edition’s guest is Alyssa Hart.
I met Alyssa at a conference in the Spring of 2015, but we have been following each other on social media for a few years prior. She is just as awesome in person as she is online. With this interview, Alyss gives you a peak into the parent behind a motherhood experience.
11 Questions with… Alyssa Hart
1. Elevator pitch… tell us about yourself.
My name is Alyssa Hart. I am an online content creator, author and mom of three!
2. Your spouse/life partner… tell us about him/her.
We have been together for 14 years; he’s an amazing dad, hardworking and all around good man. I tend to keep his life private when it comes to the blog but he doesn’t mind being the star of the odd story once in a while.
3. Your kids… tell us about them.
I have three beautiful children. Kylie is the oldest, she just turned 13. She is bright, funny, intelligent and taller than me. She was diagnosed with ADD at the age of seven but she doesn’t let anything stop her once she has her mind set. She is determined in life, I love that.
Our son Dominic was born in 2008, premature. We were only 27 weeks into the pregnancy when complications caused an emergency C-section birth. We spent three gruelling and heartbreaking months in the NICU with him. Watching him fight to survive and eventually, thrive. He has always been nicknamed our Miracle Man. Now at 9 years old he is smart, energetic, and friendly and loves anything to do with video games.
We welcomed another baby surprise in 2012; our youngest girl Makayla who will be turning 5 this December. She’s our Christmas baby, born just days before the date. She is the “princess”, she is the “boss”. She doesn’t take anything from anybody but she will be the sweetest friend you could have.
4. Do you have any pets? Tell us about them.
Yes, we do! We have four dogs! Ruffy (7 year old Chihuahua), Sofi (4 year old Chihuahua), Chiko (1 year old Chihuahua) and lastly Daizy our Doberman. My fur babies!
5. What have been your biggest challenges as a parent?
Honestly I am still hitting the big challenges as both the kids and I grow. The biggest one I faced so far as a parent is having a sick child. There is nothing more heartbreaking than feeling helpless for your own child.
6. If you could pick any career in the world for yourself, what would it be, and why?
Published book author; Writing is in my blood, I was born with it. I feel sharing stories can maybe make a difference in someone’s life, even if it’s a small difference.
7. Growing up, who inspired you the most?
I grew up with a lot of strong women in my life; I would have to say my grandmother. She was always hard working, never gave up on anything and she was always smiling. She had a positive outlook on life despite living with practically nothing.
8. How do you balance work life and family life?
Prioritize. Now that the kids are back in school I have the time and energy to put into work life but typically, family always comes first and it gets busy. I try to carve out a few hours each week to get the most important work tasks done.
9. What advice would your “current self” give to your “just about to have my first child” self?
Don’t try to take on more than you can handle. Take the help when its offered and for crying out loud get some sleep. You need to take care of yourself; you have a big future ahead of you.
10. Has there been a piece of advice you were given about parenting that really stuck with you?
Sleep when the baby sleeps. Seriously, the first few months were exhausting, take naps when you can!
11. What advice would you give to new parents?
They grow up fast; enjoy the moments when they are young and don’t be too hard on yourself; everyone is still learning.
Get social with Alyssa Hart!
Stay tuned for our next “11 Questions with…” feature.
Thanks for reading!
“11 Questions with…” is an on-going feature. I will be interviewing parents with the same 11 questions, who like me, live in the digital world. The goal is to examine different perspectives, advice, challenges, and experiences from how people parent their children, and live a successful work / life / online balance.
With all the challenges of parenting these days, we could all use stories from fellow parents, who may have already gone through a similar experience, or were offered advice that you could use.
If you would like to be interviewed for an upcoming edition, please contact me at email@example.com.
